LOOKING FOR A QUICK SUMMARY OF FRIDAY NIGHT'S RESULTS AND WHAT THEY COULD MEAN GOING FORWARD? WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED VERY LATE EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT (OR VERY EARLY SATURDAY MORNING).

It all started in DeSoto. Shawn Robinson Would Like a Word The talk all week about Denton Guyer vs. DeSoto circled around current Eagles and former Wildcats quarterback Shawn Robinson. Would Guyer have the book on their former signal caller, or would he be able to stick it to his old teammates? The answer was emphatically the latter. DeSoto romped to a staggering 51-17 win, a result so dominant that it instantly vaults the Eagles into the top tier of 6A state title contenders, and looks like a setback for the silver and black. Robinson didn't quite put up the eye-popping numbers of a week ago, but he did have over 206 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. And most importantly, he walked away victorious after a pressure-filled week. Wild Finishes in Powerhouse Match-Ups Lake Travis simply couldn't afford to go 0-2 for the first time since 2003, since before Lake Travis became the Lake Travis we know now. With a loss to Converse Judson in Week 1 in their rearview mirror, the Cavaliers got into a shootout on the road with Cibolo Steele, a team they've been throwing haymakers with since 2008. It ended after two overtimes, with the Cavaliers victorious 59-56, leaving the Steele faithful stunned. But the stunning finishes happened everywhere, just take a look at some of these finals: Euless Trinity 28, Spring Westfield 27 Cedar Hill 42, Mansfield 41 Cuero 14, Yoakum 7 Argyle 14, La Grange 8 Kennedale 21, Terrell 20 Every single one of those winners was trailing at some point in their respective contest, some by as many as three scores, before turning it around and taking home a win. And remember: It's only Week 2. We've got a lot of football left. Pack your blood pressure medications accordingly. Unexpected Red Hot Starts Let's take a moment to point out a couple squads that are sizzling after two games. San Angelo Central has absolutely destroyed Abilene and Byron Nelson in back-to-back weeks. The Bobcats rolled to a 72-25 win Friday, just a week after rolling to a 63-26 win. Manvel might have the best two wins in the Houston area after knocking off both Crosby and Galena Park North Shore in convincing fashion, but in the 6A ranks, Houston Lamar might have something brewing. The Texans topped Westfield 38-28 last week, and then trounced Ft. Bend Hightower 51-0 on Friday. Out in East Texas, Lufkin has notched back-t0-back impressive wins over Longview and Nacogdoches, Gilmer has outgunned both Liberty-Eylau and Center, and Henderson has coasted to victory against Atlanta and Tatum. And hey, all Van has done is handle Mineola and Princeton with ease. Franklin blasted Caldwell 52-13 a week after topping Navasota. Plenty of people thought these teams would be good, but this good? Sound the Alarms? Speaking of Mineola, the Yellowjackets, our preseason pick to reach the state title game in 3A DI has now dropped a 41-21 result to Van and a 41-31 result to Kaufman. Not ideal. Navasota dropped its second straight, casting further doubt over the Rattlers' high preseason rankings. Both teams have scheduled really challenging teams to open the season, but the results still come as somewhat of a surprise. It's still very early, and a lot can change in the coming weeks. The same could be said for the teams off to hot starts. Still, these are surprising results. Chapin Hangs on to El Paso Status The Huskies held off Eastlake 14-0, and continue to hold off a field of contenders in the city trying to take the crown away from them. Next week it's Pebble Hills, but pass that test, and there may not be a tougher one again until the playoffs. It can be too easy to overlook the battle to be the top team in El Paso when you're in any other part of the state, but it's a deep pool with a lot of squads elbowing for room. Chapin continues to do a remarkable job of staying on top of the pile, a credit to the Rene Hernandez's coaching staff and the kids they work with every year.
