Greatest Texas high school football player: Sweet 16, Region 1
We love March Madness, but we also miss football, so we decided to go big and create an entertaining bracket of our own.

TXHSFBMarchMadnessWelcome to the Gordon Wood region, named after the legendary Brownwood coach. Here you'll find the tournament's overall No. 1 seed (Cedric Benson) with no shortage of big-name company. Before each vote, we'll give you a quick breakdown of each player's high school career, just in case you need a refresher. Happy voting! No. 1 Cedric Benson (Midland Lee, 1998-2000) Benson finished his career at Midland Lee with 8,418 career yards rushing. He scored 15 rushing touchdowns in three state championship victories and had a single-season high of 3,526 yards rushing. Eliminated: Trevor Speights, Joe Greene.No. 12 Dat Nguyen (Rockport-Fulton 1990-1993) Nguyen was a tackling machine his whole career, especially in the high school ranks. He was never the biggest or the fastest, but he was always productive. Eliminated: Jerry LeVias, Sammy Baugh. [poll id="82"] No. 14 Robert Straight (Cuero 1985-1988) Cuero was a dynasty in the mid-80’s and Robert Straight was a huge reason. He finished his career with 8,411 yards rushing, and is criminally ranked too low, according to at least two committee members. He could be a bracket buster. Eliminated: Eric Dickerson, Derrick Johnson.No. 2 Ty Detmer (S.A. Southwest, 1983-1986) Detmer played quarterback for San Antonio Southwest from 1983-86, earning Texas Player of the Year honors as a senior.
