CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Greatest Texas high school football player bracket
We love March Madness, but we also miss football, so we decided to go big and create an entertaining bracket of our own.

TXHSFBMarchMadness Welcome to our version of March Madness, where we started with 64 of the state's greatest players pitted against each other in a battle to determine whose resumé stacks up best vs. the rest. There were four regions, named after some of the state's high school coaching giants, with players randomly assigned, regardless of geography, class size or era. This is a free-for-all, and it's now down to just two players. In the Final Four, Kenneth Hall narrowly edged Robert Strait by 400 votes, and Johnathan Gray beat Vince Young in a rout. The winner will be announced on Monday, March 28 on DCTF Live at noon. You can vote below for the winner. You can see the full bracket and winners so far, right here. Selection Committee Notes:1. These rankings and assignments were determined purely on the high school performance of the players included, with as little weight attributed to their post-high school careers as possible (though it can admittedly be hard to account for such factors). 2. The committee acknowledges there are not nearly enough offensive linemen or defensive players included. This was not a case of dismissive neglect, but rather, admitting that it's difficult to size up those careers for comparison to players with sizable common statistical resumés. 3. There were "bubble" players that got left out, and while it was hard for the committee to leave those players on the outside looking in, we're confident those players, while great, would not have challenged for a title. CHAMPIONSHIP:Kenneth Hall (Sugar Land, 1950-1953) The legendary “Sugar Land Express” had a career from 1950-1953 that has stood the test of time — he still holds the state record for career rushing yards (11,232 yards) and single-season rushing yards (4,045 in 1953). Eliminated: (16) Hunter Lile, (9) Mike Singletary, (5) Jordan Shipley, (3) Garrett Gilbert, (14) Robert Strait.Johnathan Gray (Aledo, 2008-2011) The future Texas Longhorn racked up 10,889 career rushing yards, 3 state titles, 65 and 59 touchdowns in a single season, good for top two all-time. As pass-heavy attacks became the norm, Gray was a slashing throwback on the ground. Eliminated: (16) Priest Holmes, (8) Graham Harrell, (4) Tommie Harris, (2) Earl Campbell, (8) Vince Young.
