LOOK: 10 amazing TXHSFB games that actually happened in 2015
A look at ten games you won't believe actually happened in Texas in 2015.

10 Amazing There were 7,836 games across Texas in the 2015 high school football season. Most of them were great but ultimately not unusual — a 35-10 win here, a 24-23 thriller there. But some games stood out above the rest of them. Here are 10 games you won’t believe actually happened in the 2015 Texas high school football season. Bishop Dunne 90, Dallas Roosevelt 0 The biggest blowout of 2015 came in Week 3 when private school power Bishop Dunne took on Dallas Roosevelt, and the oddest thing here is that the box score isn’t what you would think. Buoyed mostly by five Roosevelt turnovers, Bishop Dunne only racked up 422 total yards, led by QB Caleb Evans’ five touchdown passes. But this was a defensive masterpiece, as Roosevelt finished with -70 total yards. That’s -70. The score was 69-0 at halftime and obviously didn’t get much better from there. Blanket 101, Loraine 99 A six-man playoff game for the ages. This bi-district matchup was knotted up at 93 with a little more than a minute left when Eddie Hernandez gave Blanket the lead with a 45-yard touchdown scamper — and kicker Toby Florence banged through the two-point point-after. But back came the favorite Loraine, with Patrick Tillis finding Javon Withall for a 12-yard touchdown strike with just a few seconds left. The two-point kick? Blocked! And in a game that had more than 1,000 yards of offense and 200 points, Blanket pulled the stunner. Brownfield 42, Levelland 42 A tie? You betcha! Brownfield and Levelland were in the third quarter of what felt like a tremendous shootout — Brownfield QB Jaelyn Nolan had thrown for three touchdowns and run for two, while Levelland QB Nick Gerber had four touchdown passes — when Mother Nature struck…literally. Lightning caused the game to be stopped and it didn’t let up. Eventually, the coaches got together and decided that the non-district game wasn’t worth waiting around for, and both teams went home with the draw. Fort Bend Austin 3, Fort Bend Clements 0 For you defensive football fans, this was the game for you. That’s not to say it was pretty — a Benji Baxter 25-yard field goal in the first quarter was the lone scoring — but it was at least close. Nine punts, three turnovers and lots of turnovers on downs, this was the lowest-scoring game in the state all season. Frisco Lone Star 55, Lake Dallas 49 (3 OTs) The wildest playoff game of the year? We’d say yes. This 5A Division I state semifinal — yes, a state semifinal went to three overtimes — had everything. A wild comeback? Check: Lake Dallas trailed 28-0 halfway through the second quarter. A last-second touchdown? Check: Dagan Haehn (playing on one leg, basically) found Keegan Brewer as time expired to send the game to overtime. A crazy fourth-down conversion? Check: Haehn’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Chris Slater on 4th and 8 forced the second overtime. A game-clinching defensive play? Check: Michael Johnson finished the game off for Lone Star with an interception in the end zone in the third overtime. This would’ve been nuts for a non-district game; that it was for a spot in a state title game makes it outrageous. Gorman 126, Oakwood 89 Six-man football is sometimes called “basketball on turf”, but this one was ridiculous. The seventh-highest scoring game since 2001, Gorman and Oakwood combined for a staggering 215 points in this non-district contest. Everywhere you look, there are gaudy numbers — Ethan Edgewood had 501 total yards for Oakwood in a losing effort! — and it’s sure to etch a place in the six-man record books. Houston Lutheran South 83, Tyler T.K. Gorman 68 And here we have it: the highest-scoring 11-man football game in the 2015 Texas high school football season. Where do you even start with this? Houston Lutheran South QB Patrick Gonzales threw for 665 yards and nine touchdowns (plus a rushing score). Tyler TK Gorman QB Michael Goodwin had 647 total yards and nine total TDs. Gorman had 932 yards of total offense and lost. There was only one punt, and it was by Lutheran South. But the best part of this game: it was really close heading to the fourth quarter! Houston Lutheran South led 63-60 heading to the final frame. In total, there were 1,727 yards and countless headaches for defensive coordinators. Jersey Village 74, Cy Woods 73 A largely meaningless game between two teams that finished a combined 7-13 gave us one of the most unforgettable games of 2015. With more than 1,500 total yards, a 300-yard rusher (Cy Woods RB CJ Jones), a 500-yard passer (Jersey Village QB Deshun Qualls, who also ran for four scores) and countless big plays, this game came down to Jersey Village’s decision to go for two with 1:17 to play — and Qualls got it on a two-point conversion run, giving JV an absurd win. Keller Timber Creek 57, Byron Nelson 54 (5 OTs) Sometimes, 48 minutes isn’t enough. Sometimes, overtime isn’t enough. And sometimes, if you’re these two Dallas-area squads, it takes five overtimes to finally come out with a winner. This game was even-steven through regulation, and they matched score for score through the first four overtimes. Finally, in the fifth overtime, Byron Nelson was held to a field goal, and Caleb Collins’ 8-yard touchdown run — his third of the game — gave Timber Creek the victory. Waco La Vega 6, Liberty Hill 0 (OT) Talk about a slugfest: what a 4A Division I state quarterfinal this was. The only game in the state to go to overtime scoreless, La Vega’s Jamal Williams scored on a 2-yard touchdown run in overtime to give the Pirates the lead. Then, the defense did what it was doing all day — dominating — by stuffing Liberty Hill’s possession and sending the eventual state champions into the semifinals.
