Standout Super Bowl performances by former Texas high school football players
Von Miller's huge game in Super Bowl 50 got us wondering: Which Texans have put on the best show in the sport's biggest game?

DeSoto High SchoolThe third player to play high school football in the state of Texas won a Super Bowl MVP when DeSoto’s Von Miller earned the award in Denver’s defeat of Carolina. Miller joined Drew Brees (SB XLIV) and Harvey Martin (XII) as former Texan prep stars to win a Super Bowl MVP, and his performance ranks high on the all-time great performances by Texans in the Super Bowl. Drew Brees – Westlake High School The quarterback from Westlake put on one of the best performances by a quarterback in Super Bowl history when he led the New Orleans Saints past Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. Brees finished the game 32-of-39 through the air for 288 yards and two touchdowns. His 82.1 completion percentage was the second best ever in Super Bowl history. New Orleans won the game 31-17 and Brees finished with a passer rating of 114.5. Von Miller – DeSoto High School The Broncos defense was dominant and Miller – the inspiration for this list – was the catalyst. The former four-star recruit from DeSoto put on a show Sunday night and stamped his claim as the best edge-rusher in the NFL. He recorded six tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Miller hardly came out of nowhere. He was the second pick in the NFL Draft in 2011, the same year Cam Newton was selected first overall by the Carolina Panthers. The Denver defense held Newton’s Panthers to 10 points. Harvey Martin – South Oak Cliff Martin shared the Super Bowl XII MVP award with fellow defensive lineman Randy White. It was a team award in many ways, as Dallas held Denver to just 10 points. Martin ended the day with two sacks. Broncos quarterback Craig Martin ended the game with the following stat line: 4-for-15, 39 yards, 0 touchdowns, four interceptions and three lost fumbles. The whole Dallas defense could have won the award that day. Mike Singletary – Worthing High School Singletary attended high school in Houston before heading off to Baylor. He eventually led one of the best defenses in NFL history to a championship in Super Bowl XX. The 1985 Bears will always hold a place in sports history and Singletary was the NFL Defensive MVP that season. Richard Dent won the MVP of the Super Bowl, but Singletary recovered two fumbles, which is tied for an NFL record. He also anchored a defense that allowed just seven yards rushing to New England in the win. Earl Cooper – Lincoln High School (Lexington) Cooper played for the San Francisco 49ers during the Bill Walsh/Joe Montana era. As a rookie, he ended the season second in the league in catches behind Kellen Winslow, Sr. Cooper, who played his college ball at Rice, played in two Super Bowls during his time in San Francisco. He caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in Super Bowl XVI.
