If you had to pick a single game in each conference to see in the coming days, you could do a lot worse than these showdowns.

The must-see semifinal games in each conference this weekend

There are only 20 11-man games taking place across the state, with all of them deciding which teams play for a state title in Houston next week. There are no bad choices, but here are my games of the week for each classification. Class 6A – Allen vs. Westlake With each passing week, the state’s chances to dethrone Allen from the top of the state get slimmer and slimmer. Next up for the Eagles is a Westlake team coached by former Southlake Carroll head man, Todd Dodge. Westlake went through a few rough years as Lake Travis started taking over Austin earlier in the decade, but the Chaparrals are back and hoping to shock the world behind a Texas Longhorn commit at quarterback and a stout defense. Class 5A – Lake Dallas vs. Lone Star All of the talk in Class 5A DII was centered on Cedar Park once Ennis was knocked out in the bi-district round. The Timberwolves are still alive on the other side of the bracket and are the odds-on favorite to win the state crown, but two exciting storylines emerged out of Region I and II. Lake Dallas may be the least talked about team in DFW that is still alive in the playoffs, and Lone Star is making an historic run with one of the more exciting offenses you’ll find, led by Jason Shelley. Class 4A – West Orange-Stark vs. Cuero One of these teams was expected to be here. West Orange-Stark came into the playoffs as one of the favorites to win state and breezed through Region III with four straight wins by over 30 points. Cuero, on the other hand, lost five games in the regular season before a few personnel changes (and some injury recoveries) helped spark this surprising run through Region IV. Now, the two teams packed full of history take each other on for a spot in the state title game. Class 3A – Brock vs. Mineola The two favorites advanced past regionals and now face each other for a spot in the state title game. Mineola advanced past this round in 2014, but eventually lost to Cameron Yoe in the championship. The winner of the Brock/Mineola game likely gets a shot at preventing the Yoemen from claiming their fourth straight state title. Class 2A – Seagraves vs. Albany This game will be fun and likely decides which team takes on Bremond in the finals. Both of these teams are no stranger to success and are two of the more storied small-classification programs in the state, at least this decade. Seagraves and Albany were on a collision course for the semifinals all season, and the showdown has finally arrived.
