The odds are stacked against a few high schools this weekend, but they'll be kings of the mountain if they pull it off.

We’ve seen defending state champions, regional favorites and district champions get upended in the Texas high school playoffs. There are bound to be a few again this week, and here are three that would shakeup brackets. Stratford over Canadian We spend most of our time talking about the best teams in Class 6 and Class 5A, but the most dominant team in the state may be from Class 2A. Canadian enters the regional round at 13-0 and outscored its three playoff opponents by a score of 178-42. Chris Koetting’s team hasn’t been held to under 30 points all season and scored 40 or more points in 10 of 13 games. The defense has kept opposing offenses to less than 20 points in 11 of the 13 games. The most Canadian gave up this season was 20, which happened once in the regular season and once in the playoffs. Stratford, coached by Matt Lovorn, is no slouch. The Elks are 12-1 on the year, but that lone loss was to, you guessed it, Canadian. The 31-6 loss to Canadian in district play is a double-edged sword for the Elks. On one hand, Lovorn’s team knows what to expect. On the other, Lovorn’s team knows what to expect. It’ll be the upset of the week if Stratford pulls it off. Silsbee over Carthage Carthage shocked the state and became the favorite to advance to the semifinals out of Region III of Class 4A D1 with an upset victory over defending champion Navasota. Carthage is a program used to playoff success. This is all still relatively new for Silsbee, which escaped into this round with a 43-42 victory over El Campo. In a weird twist, El Campo was the team that knocked out Kilgore, which won Carthage’s district championship. Clemens over Cibolo Steele The best team in San Antonio all season was Cibilo Steele. The Knights proved that with a non-district win over DeSoto and a district win over Converse Judson, a team that may end up winning Region IV in DI of Class 6A. Steele doesn’t run the type of high-flying offense that jumps out on a stat sheet. Instead, Steele grounds people out and then uses a strong defense to end the game. Clemens’ run so far has been outstanding, but it’ll take a huge effort to move past Steele.
