Let’s take one more look back before regional finals become the talk of the state. Allen is still truckin’ The thought entering the season was if Allen was going to be knocked off the Class 6A mountaintop, 2015 was the year to do it. The Eagles, however, are three games away from capturing another state championship in the state’s biggest division. Kyler Murray is no longer leading the charge, but a two-quarterback system has Allen in the regional final against Denton Ryan. If Allen can claim another Region I championship in Class 6A-DI, Allen will face the winner of Westlake/Atascocita in the state semifinals, which may end up being a tougher challenge than the state championship game. Region III and IV is steadily losing favorites each week. Converse Judson remains the top team left from those regions. LISD schools to meet in regional final Denton ISD's two biggest teams remain undefeated through three rounds of playoffs, but all of Leander ISD's playoff teams are still kicking. Two teams from that school district – Vandegrift and Vista Ridge – face off for the second time this season when the two crosstown rivals play for a berth into the Class 5A state semifinals. Vandegrift won the district game with a huge comeback in the second half. Vista Ridge’s only losses this season came to Cedar Park and Vandegrift. Cedar Park – the third LISD school to make the playoffs – takes on Calallen in Region IV of the Class 5A-DII bracket. Class 4A-D1 opens up When Carthage upset Navasota over the weekend, it helped out more than the Bulldogs. Navasota was expected to roll to its second straight state championship, but now the whole bracket is open. The favorite is probably Argyle, but to reach the state semifinals, it must get through state-ranked Texarkana Liberty-Eylau. The winner of that game may win the state championship. Carthage draws Silsbee, a team that escaped to the regional final with a one-point victory over El Campo. In Region IV, Waco La Vega takes on China Spring. Waco La Vega moved on to face China Spring after shutting out Liberty Hill through four quarters and overtime to take a 6-0 lead. China Spring beat Gatesville, 21-14.
