The Roadrunners trailed by six entering the fourth quarter after giving up 14 points in the third, but an 85-yard touchdown run by Jarveon Williams with 10:28 cut the Rams' lead to 33-31. The offense had a chance to take the lead in the fourth, but an offside penalty pushed the Roadrunners out of field goal position and Colorado State took over after a punt and ran out the clock to end the upset bid. Williams was the star of the game for UTSA. The junior from Converse Judson broke the school-record for longest rush on his 85-yard run and broke the program’s single-game rushing record with 170 yards on 13 carries. The Roadrunners out-rushed Colorado State by over 100 yards on the game, averaging 8.2 yards on 34 carries as a team. It was an up-and-down game for redshirt freshman Blake Bogenschutz. The former Carthage High School star was benched in last week’s loss to Oklahoma State after turning the ball over on four of UTSA’s first five drives. He played mistake free until a costly interception in the third quarter killed a UTSA drive. Colorado State would score a touchdown on the ensuing drive to take a 30-17 lead with 6:20 left in the third quarter after the Roadrunners came out of halftime with a 17-16 lead. The UTSA defense played admirably despite being without starters like defensive end Marcus Davenport and Mike linebacker Drew Douglas. The Roadrunners also suffered a loss to starting Rover safety Mauricio Sanchez in the second half. The youth in the secondary showed, as the Roadrunners gave up 267 yards passing. Colorado State quarterback Nick Stevens finished the game 15-of-28 for 255 yards and three touchdowns. Colorado State averaged just 3.7 yards per carry, but running back Jason Oden Jr. finished the game with 143 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. The Rams ran 24 more plays in the game than UTSA, and it showed on the last drive when Colorado State was able to ice the last five-or-so minutes of the game away on the final possession. Bogenschutz finished the game with 153 yards passing on 9-of-18 passing, a touchdown and an interception. He added 61 yards rushing on nine carries. Aron Taylor led UTSA with four catches and 69 yards.
