Houston 59, Texas State 14: What We Learned
The Cougars continue their roll, while Texas State needs to figure things out.

15ad9ddad2dafd262727853b1d39d2d5 Houston, we don’t have any problems when it comes to the Cougars. Texas State, however, might want some help in San Marcos. The Houston Cougars are 3-0 after a very one-sided win over the Texas State Bobcats and look like a team that's more than ready for conference play. Houston racked up 689 total offensive yards and balanced them well, with 323 coming through the air and 366 on the ground. The Bobcats were held to 401 total yards, 302 of which came through the air. Houston’s junior quarterback Greg Ward, Jr. played incredibly well. Ward finished the night 17-of-21 with 274 yards and four touchdowns in the air and added two touchdowns on the ground while averaging 9.1 yards per carry. The Cougar offense is poised and takes advantage of every opportunity presented to them. Whether it be via big plays or steady drives, Tom Herman's team consistently attacks defenses. Texas State struggled in most aspects of the game. Junior quarterback Tyler Jones was 29-of-44 on the night – but with two interceptions – and scored once on the ground. Nine different Bobcat receivers had catches, but Texas State’s offense was 7-of-19 on third down and committed four costly turnovers. The Bobcats couldn’t get any momentum going and looked defeated early in this game. Houston was no bottom feeder last year, but this squad appears to be taking things to another level. The Cougars have plenty of offensive weapons, a strong defense and are playing with a lot of confidence. The Bobcats, on the other hand, need to get back to the basics. Texas State has talent, but doing the little things correctly is something it needs to focus on. And after surrendering 115 points in the last two games, that should start on the defensive side of the ball.
