Morning Jolt (Sept. 1): A Heisman on the South Plains?

This is the Morning Jolt, TexasFootball.com’s wake-up call to get up and start thinking about football. Texas Tech has never won a Heisman Trophy. The closest a Red Raider has ever come to taking home college football's most prestigious award was finishing fourth in the voting, accomplished by both Donny Anderson in 1965 and Graham Harrell in 2008 — coincidentally, both Dave Campbell's Texas Football coverboys. But maybe we're missing something, because if this photo sent to us by Lubbock ISD's Brian Morris is any indication, Lubbock may have a future Heisman winner in its midst. Lubbock Heisman That's Lubbock Monterey QB Baylor Mitchell giving an Odessa defender the classic pose en route to another big play. Mitchell accounted for 208 yards and two touchdowns passing, plus 19 yards and two more scores on the ground, though in a losing effort. But hey, maybe this photo is a sign of things to come.
