The past couple of years, Texas high school football fans have been spoiled. We've had no fewer than a handful of legitimate superstars to watch every week, all of whom had a legitimate case to the title of "The Face of Texas High School Football." Whether it was Cedar Hill's DaMarkus Lodge, or Allen's Kyler Murray, or Katy's Rodney Anderson, or West Orange-Stark's Deionte Thompson, or Booker's Hunter Lile, or any other number of players — too many to name, frankly — there was no lack of candidates for the face of the proverbial franchise. But those guys all have one thing in common: they all graduated in 2015, leaving Texas high school football with a void. So, who is poised to take the crown as the new face of Texas high school football? It's certainly a worthy debate. Here are five candidates (I limited this list to only seniors, for what it's worth): Navasota WR Tren'Davian Dickson He's already the single-season receiving touchdowns leader in Texas history, and he may be the most electrifying player in the state at any level. DeSoto QB Tristen Wallace Back from injury, he's one of the most fun-to-watch players in the state when he's healthy, and could lead DeSoto to its first title. Cameron Yoe RB Traion Smith What he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in quickness. If you haven't seen this guy run the ball, you're missing out. Spring Westfield DL Ed Oliver A defensive linemen? You betcha. There are few players in the state that can change the game in an instant like Oliver can. Kerrville Tivy QB Cade Dyal Putting up gaudy numbers are only part of what Dyal brings to the table; it's his creativity on the field that sets him apart.
