It’s a list that every Texas high school football program wants to find themselves on at one point, then get off of as quickly as possible: the best programs to never win a state championship. On one hand, just finding yourself on this list is an accomplishment, a sign that your program has ascended to the upper echelon of the nation’s most competitive high school football league. On the other hand…well, it means you haven’t won the big one. The size of that list is certainly up for debate, but what isn’t debatable: DeSoto is definitely on the list. Any way you look at it, the Eagles have been among the very best programs in Texas over the past decade. Since 2004, DeSoto has amassed a 108-32 record; since 2010, that mark is a staggering 59-9. But when it comes to titles, DeSoto has come up empty. It’s not for lack of talent; they’ve just always seemed to run into a juggernaut in the playoffs. Check out the last five seasons, and who has eliminated the Eagles.
