Morning Jolt (Aug. 17): Watch Joe Montana breaks Houston's heart

This is the Morning Jolt, TexasFootball.com’s wake-up call to get up and start thinking about football. Houston Cougars fans may want to turn away at this one, but it's hard to argue that the 1979 Cotton Bowl is anything less than one of the greatest games in Lone Star State history. For those who don't know this little bit of history: Bill Yeoman's Houston Cougars stormed into the Cotton Bowl fueled by one of the nation's finest rushing duos in Randy Love and Emmett King. Who did they meet in the crown jewel of bowl games? Notre Dame, led by some quarterback named Joe Montana. The game was a slugfest in some of the iciest conditions Dallas had seen in decades, with Houston getting the better of the Irish through the first half. But the story goes that Montana — fighting a terrible flu — ate chicken soup at halftime, helping him to feel better and launch the Irish's comeback. The game has a fabulous finish that I won't ruin for you, only to say that it's worthy of being one of the best games in Texas state history (even if UH came out on the wrong side of it). Thanks to the miracle of YouTube, enjoy it in its entirety.
