Morning Jolt (Aug. 10): Watch one of Texas high school's greatest RBs
Get your week going with footage of Cuero running back Robert Strait

This is the Morning Jolt, TexasFootball.com’s wake-up call to get up and start thinking about football. Peruse through Dave Campbell's Texas Football's Texas high school football records, and one name you're bound to see more than you might expect is Cuero running back Robert Strait. A star in the late 80s for the Gobblers, Strait now ranks 7th on the all-time career rushing list with 8,411 yards, and his 1987 season — in which he ran for 3,515 yards — ranks 9th on the single-season rushing yards list. He was a pretty remarkable running back...but don't take my word for it. Check out this segment from "ESPN Scholastic Sports America" back in 1988. There's so much to digest here. First, the production value on this show is pure 80s. Beyond that, look at what a tough runner Strait was. He just ducked behind those giant pads (so very 80s themselves) and plowed over people, dragging them for a few extra yards. And as a bonus, you get a look at the Sugar Land Express, Kenneth Hall, whose run in the 1950s is still the most prolific rushing career in Texas high school football history. After watching this, it's easy to see why Robert Strait is all over the record books.
