Recruiting Roundup — A&M and TCU

Catching up with some of the latest recruiting headlines across Texas.Nothing helps you more in recruiting than winning. TCU is discovering this at the moment. The Horned Frogs have seen an uptick in their recruiting efforts recently and their surprising success in 2014 has something to do with it. It also helps that TCU coach Gary Patterson has built an incredible staff that continues to produce and develop talent. We look closer at TCU's newest commits, plus take a peek at College Station and the Texas A&M Aggies who are adding even more potential to a roster already full of it. There's plenty of purple and maroon in this edition of Recruiting Around the State.  TCU After sharing the Big 12 crown with Baylor and dismantling the Ole Miss Rebels in the Peach Bowl to cap a 13-1 season in 2014, the Horned Frogs of Fort Worth are reaping the rewards from one of the most successful in program history.TCU and coach Gary Patterson landed a handful of commitments last week that further solidified their standing as the best recruiting class in the Big 12 for 2016 thus far. Patterson and his staff are keen at finding fits for the Frogs schemes, and the newest verbals are proof. After grabbing Fort bend Hightower OLB Clifton Lewis and Lexington (OK) OT Tyler Brown, the Horned Frogs entered Friday with a little momentum.TCU then started off the weekend netting CE King RB Trayveon Williams. The 4-star speedster from Houston was down to TCU, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and the University of Houston. Williams fits the role that Aaron Green played in the all-purpose back. He tallied 1,853 yards rushing with 26 touchdowns, while adding 348 yards through the air on 20 catches, with three scores. The next big grab was Taj Williams, from Council Bluffs CC (Iowa). The 6-foot-4, 190-pound pass-catcher is the consensus top Juco WR in the country. He hails from Tallahassee, FL, and held offers from Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Auburn among others.Last, but certainly not least, junior OL Wes Harris verbally committed to TCU. At 6-foot-3, 285 pounds, the Aledo lineman should be a future guard along the Frogs offensive front. Harris is one of the top OL in Texas for 2017 and fits the interior lineman mold that Patterson has created.Overall TCU has become increasingly comfortable in its new digs, the Big 12 Conference. Don't expect them to go anywhere but up for the clear and present future. Winning tends to do that.TEXAS A&MNothing makes Aggies happier than a Kevin Sumlin, #Yessir.Whenever the popular A&M coach posts as much from his Twitter account, it can only mean one thing; the Aggies just landed a recruit.Texas A&M received a verbal pledge from one of the best defensive prospects in-state on Saturday when OLB/DE Mark Jackson committed to the Aggies. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound 4-star edge rusher from Cibolo Steele held offers from Texas, Oklahoma, and LSU among others. The Jackson commitment is designed to help add talent and depth to a defensive roster sorely in need of it. Sumlin lured LSU DC John Chavis from Baton Rouge to College Station in the offseason in hopes of fixing a porous defense in 2014. Picking up players like Jackson is a good way to fix that, one prospect at a time. Justin Wells is an editor of InsideTexas.com and a TexasFootball.com contributor.
