Zero verbals for Texas

A few years back, my wife and I had to drive down to Austin for something in mid-February. I think it was a wedding or some such.

The event we had that evening wasn't as important as what happened that afternoon — whatever our engagement was, it occupied Mrs. Texas Football all day long, so I was left to fend for myself on South Congress and hope I wouldn't lose track of time completely. I rummaged through boutique shops for little gifts, priced out a pair of boots, got a slice of pizza and some ice cream. I think I even looked at some puppies at a rescue shelter stand on a street corner. Only in Austin, right?
