As far as explaining credentials goes, I shouldn't have to say too much about this year's 4A TSWA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year — I'm pretty sure name recognition alone will fill most of us in. Aledo RB Johnathan Gray and Denton Ryan DE Mario Edwards, both juniors and both first-team selections on Dave Campbell's Texas Football's annual postseason All-Texas High School Team, were named the top players in Class 4A this year, and with good reason — Gray rushed for 59 touchdowns this season, a new state record, including a ridiculous eight in the 4A DII title game against La Marque, and Edwards manhandled the competition all season as part of Denton Ryan's astoundingly good front seven, taking the Raiders all the way to the 4A DI title game. I think both are the best at their position heading into the 2011 season.
