Texas Stadium no more
For years, the big bowl out in Irving represented some of the best and worst things about football. No question -- the teams that often graced Texas Stadium's field were some of the best of the past quarter century, giving us Staubach, Aikman, Emmitt, Irvin, Sanders and countless other Dallas stars that helped put the city on the pro sports map. But there was plenty of shady stuff that happened behind the locker room doors of those Dallas teams, and as good as those players were, more than one wound up in trouble when left to his own devices. For better or worse, part of their legacy is now gone forever, as Texas Stadium hit the dirt Sunday morning through a planned detonation. As most of these things are, it was a little anticlimactic. I'll never think about that stadium with the silver star. But I'll always remember it for the high school football it so graciously hosted over the years -- around 700 games, reports say. Plano East-John Tyler? Texas Stadium. Now we move on to the gargantuan, yep somewhat sterile and boring, Cowboys Stadium. Build a new legacy, I guess.
