OFFENSIVE LINEMANBest on the Board
The state of Texas is known for annually producing some of the country's best lineman, so don't be surprised that all of our Winter Edition Top 10 guys are off the board (nine of which are committed to BCS programs). As a matter of fact (by our rough count), there are currently 45 offensive lineman committed to DI programs from Texas high schools -- that's not even counting D-AA, DII and junior colleges! The best guy left available looks to be Seagoville OG Michael Green, who apparently has interest from four BCS programs -- Arizona, Baylor, Kansas and Kansas State.
Three Likely to Sign
Tough to pronounce but easy to love as a recruit, Midland OG Sidney Nwangwu (pronounced wan-wu) has a couple offers on the table but is holding out for a scholarship from SMU. Nwangwu has great feet for a guy his size (6-4, 300) and projects well at the left guard spot he played with the Bulldogs. ... If Centerville's Kraig Bates has made up his mind, he certainly hasn't let coach Kyle Hardee know about! Hardee says he's not sure what Bates is going to do yet, but the 6-5 lineman has both visits and offers in hand (with names like Iowa State and UTEP in the mix), and will likely develop a great body for an offensive tackle when he gets into a year-round workout program focused on just football. ... Plano had its fair share of big-name players this year, but lost in the Rex Burkhead/Kris Lott/etc. shuffle is center Blake McJunkin, a 2007 AP Class 5A All-State first-team selection with serious lineage -- his father Kirk played for Texas in the early 80's before being drafted by the Steelers in 1984. The younger McJunkin has had an official visit with the Longhorns, but looks to be choosing between Air Force, Navy, Georgia Tech and Iowa State.
