DIVISION I
REGION I & II PREMIER GAME
Muleshoe (11-0) vs. Littlefield (11-0)

7:30 p.m. Friday, Wolfforth Frenship And then there were just two. At the start of the 2A playoffs, the upper half of 2A's DI Region I bracket sported something you don't see very often -- four 10-0 teams, all playing each other. When the smoke had all cleared, only Muleshoe (which beat Bushland) and Littlefield (which topped Kermit) were left standing, and after this weekend, only one of the powerful grouping will have finally earned the right to play ... well, the winner of Clyde and Early. No rest for the weary! Likely still boiling over last year's OT playoff defeat to Littlefield, Muleshoe will be depending on the prolific passing of QB Wes Wood -- one of 2A's best this year -- to guide its high-octane offense past Littlefield's defense; even if Littlefield was the best defensive team in the country, few teams in the state of Texas can rival the Mules' 554-point total on the season. At the beginning of the year, we didn't know just how good Muleshoe was going to be ... well, now we do. If it does advance, it should see Clyde in the next round. After that it would be the Region II winner and then the Region III-IV representative. No state finalist ever has it easy, but Muleshoe, should it win out, would have a legitimate claim to the uneviable title of "Most Difficult Road to a State Championship."
