Realignment Central: Last minute comings and goings

There's one more day left for the realignment process, as teams appeal their placement and make last second moves to finalize the 2008-2009 season lineups. Stay with us throughout the day to find out who had their appeals granted and who was turned down.

  • Stratford moves back up to 5A:Houston Stratford, who had been moved down to 23-4A, the same district as reigning DI champ Lamar Consolidated, has had its appeal granted and has been promoted back to 18-5A, where it will rejoin former district mates Houston Spring Woods, Houston Northbrook and Houston Memorial. The move also means that the Spartans have gone from a 4A district where they would have had the largest enrollment (2,056) to a 5A one where they'll have the second smallest (Houston Strake Jesuit, 1784) and two other teams (Alief Elsik and Alief Hastings) have over 4,000 students. For a broader perspective, Stratford was the seventh largest team in 4A and is now the sixth smallest in 5A -- this information shouldn't be too big of a surprise, as Stratford was one of the smaller schools in 5A last year as well.
