Inside the 25: Quarterbacks lead 19th-ranked Cy Falls, Kerrville Tivy

Editor's Note: "Inside The 25" counts down the '08 preseason top 25 rankings in all five 11-man classifications, taking a closer look at each team in the rankings, starting from No. 25 and working down to the No. 1 teams in each classification.

CLASS 5A's #19: Cypress Falls
2007 Preseason Ranking/Final Ranking: NR/NR
2007 Final Record/Playoff Finish: 9-3/DII area finalists
Why They're Ranked: You can't expect Cy Falls' rankings drought to carry over from last season. In the 05 and 06 seasons, Cy Falls ended the season ranked inside the final Top 20. Last year might've seen a similar result, but a 43-34 loss to Stratford knocked Cy Falls out of the playoffs. An epic QB duel surfaced in that game, as Stratford's Andrew Luck just got the better of Kolby Gray. Stratford is out of Luck, but Gray returns for his senior season looking to build on last year's striking junior statistics: 3.350 yards, 32 TDs passing, plus 300 yards, 8 TDs rushing. Though Gray rejoins just three fellow offensive starters, two were on the OL, including big tackle Matt Eureste, a starter since his sophomore year, when Cy Falls made the DII finals. The strength of the defense is up the middle with LBs Derron Clebourn (21 TFL) and Chase Parker (54 tackles), two of the unit's four starters back from the '07 team. Replacing Shane Turner -- the RB off to Rice -- remains priority, but having a player like Gray makes that problem easier to deal with.
