Inside the 25: No. 4 class sports '07 state champ and two semifinalists

CLASS 5A's #4: Galena Park North Shore
2007 Preseason Ranking/Final Ranking: 14/12
2007 Final Record/Playoff Finish: 14-1/DI state semifinalists
Why They're Ranked: Does a 70-game regular season win streak ring a bell? That's right, as unbelievable as it sounds, the Mustangs have not lost a regular season game in seven years. Such a stretch proves that even losing transcendent players doesn't mean a team has to ebb and flow amongst the state rankings -- even taking Peyton Manning from the Colts and putting him under center at North Shore would only promise you, at most, a 40-game regular season win streak. That's how incredible coach David Aymond's run has been with the Mustangs -- he has been through almost two complete classes of students (from freshman to graduated seniors) without losing a non-postseason game. No season will test that record like 2008 will, however, as North Shore will have to open the season against reigning 5A DII champ Katy, then play a loaded Aldine Eisenhower team, play La Marque two weeks later and then travel to Southlake Carroll -- all before district play opens. Returning just seven total starters will hamper this team's championship hopes, but as already stated, you obviously can't rule this team out, ever. TE Barrett Matthews, a UT pledge, should be the emotional leader on offense and DT Thaddeus Randle, a Nebraska commit, returns for his third-year as a starter. This team, albeit a bit inexperienced, is still the class of the district, and even its tough non-district schedule shouldn't derail the Mustangs from a solid playoff run..audio_b{background:#FEFFEC; border:1px solid #E5E7BF; padding:3px; font-size:10px; font-family:verdana; width:160px; text-align:center; float:right; margin-left:4px;}
