Editor's Note: "Inside The 25" counts down the '08 preseason top 25 rankings in all five 11-man classifications, taking a closer look at each team in the rankings, starting from No. 25 and working down to the No. 1 teams in each classification.
CLASS 5A's #21: Dallas Skyline
2007 Preseason Ranking/Final Ranking: NR/14
2007 Final Record/Playoff Finish: 12-2/DI state quarterfinalists
Why They're Ranked: Not all of their 2007 team has moved on to play at the DI level -- it just seems like it. Skyline lost six players to DI scholarships (including four to Minnesota), but at least four returnees already have offers on the table (including two commitments: CB Steve Williams to OU, and QB/ATH Chris Frazier to SMU), and as the season progresses and the replacements get more experience, you expect that number will rise. Still, somebody has to coach this talent into a winning product, and Skyline has one of the city's best in Reginald Samples. A Samples-led Lincoln team came closest to ending DISD's state-title drought in 2004, where his team lost in the finals (in 2OTs) to Kilgore. With Skyline consistently churning out DI talent, Samples should annually field a Top 25 team at Skyline.
