Houston was really hurting for a speedy playmaker at linebacker in 2007, and Aldine's Anthony Lewis has the kind of quickness that last year's squad was sorely lacking. Lewis, along with Chavez LB Jarvis Smith, appear to be the jewels of this class. The 2008 depth chart is open at both the inside and outside spots, and while there are already upperclassmen poised to fill those voids, don't be surprised if any of these guys are able to come out and play in situational downs. ... The defensive secondary had a rough go of it last year (see: Tulsa 56, Houston 7), and while, like the linebacking corps, several upperclassmen return, coach Kevin Sumlin would likely opt to use any of his two new DBs (Nick Saenz, Pearland; and Kris Johnston, Texas City) as a nickle- or dime-back if they excel in the spring.
