Defensive standouts earn UH big win
Offense, offense, offense. That's all anyone wanted to discuss when the Houston Cougars came to the Sun Bowl to take on the UTEP Miners. Why not? It was a clash between two of Conference USA's most prolific offenses, and neither disappointed Saturday night. But in the end, it was the defense that made the difference in the Cougars' 34-31 victory before 35,116 fans.
"We've had a few wins here in the last three or four years, but that's as big a win as we've ever had here," said UH coach Art Briles. "And that includes all the games from last year. The reason is because of how we had to do it, where we had to do it and how our guys rose up every time we had to overcome something. This was a total team effort."
