Great ending to a great game. Panthers win 20-14 (3:41 p.m.) After recovering their own fumble to set up a first and 10 from the 14, it took Pflugerville only 2 plays to extend their season and end Abilene's. On the big fumble by Nwoko on the 3rd and 31, he looked like he was going to come up short on the play by about 3 or 4 yards. However, as he struggled to push the pile, the ball was stripped forward. In a bitter twist, several Eagle players looked like they had a shot at recovering it, but could not come up with the ball that rolled along the sideline. It stayed in bounds long enough for a Panther WR to recover. Obviously, that was the key play of the game. You hate to see the season end like that if you are an Abilene fan, but if you think about it, a bouncing ball after a late fumble helped extend their season vs. Carroll. All in all, I walked away very impressed with Abilene's crowd support each of these last 3 weeks at Texas Stadium and I like QB Lackey's leadership. Tough way for the season to end though. As far as Pflugerville goes, you don't want to be trailing them in the second half with their BIG trio of running backs. I take my hat off to Abilene for holding on as long as they can, but also admire the Panthers for pounding the ball and controlling the clock. Whoever they play at the Alamodome better tell their defensive lineman to get ready for some old fashioned football. I am out of here...thanks for reading!
