5A Weekend Review: Series of third-round upsets is par for the course

ByTravis Stewart/Texas Football

So what did the third round of the 5A playoffs bring us? What DIDN'T it bring us! Several favorites fell, especially in the Metroplex area -- Cedar Hill (No. 1) and Dallas Skyline (No. 2) both fell to underdog programs, and Southlake Carroll (No. 7) but the dust, too. Meanwhile, teams like Abilene, Cy Woods, LC Clear Springs, RR Stony Point and Arlington Bowie are flying high. Just something to think about -- now there are just three teams left from our season-ending Top 25 polls' top ten -- No. 5 Katy, the preseason No. 1, No. 8 SA Clark and No. 10 RR Stony Point. Others still alive include No. 11 Euless Trinity, No. 12 John Tyler, No. 14 Abilene, No. 16 Cinco Ranch and No. 22 Bowie. So only half of the remaining 5A teams were ranked at the end of the season -- what a year of upsets this has been!
