4A-I Region I:EP Chapin vs. Denton Ryan, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Midland's Grande Communications Stadium
Stunningly, I don't think it's too terribly complicated to break down Denton Ryan games -- the Raiders have lost just once this season (Lake Dallas), and in that loss, Scotty Young, one of Texas' most prolific quarterbacks, threw for just one touchdown. Think there's a correlation? Probably. But Ryan has shown flashes of ability in the running game at times this season, especially in the season finale with Guyer, when it ran the ball exceptionally well to close out the game. But still, Chapin, a rare El Paso third-round team, has to plug up Ryan's passing game if it wants a good chance to win. Pair that with the Huskies' consistenly potent offense, and you have an upset bid. That doesn't, however, mean I think it's likely. I think Ryan wins -- and Guyer, too -- to set up an all-Denton regional final.
