3A Division II: Carthage's impressive 49-37 win halts Celina's history

3A Division I Championship: Carthage 49, Celina 37DCTF's QUICK TAKE: Dwight Smith had a night for the ages on a night where history was the buzzword.
Smith, Carthage's senior running back, rushed for 267 yards and five TDs to lead Carthage (14-2) to its first state title. The victory -- likely the last high school football game in Texas Stadium history -- prevented Celina (12-4) from winning its ninth championship in school history; Celina's eight state titles already is a state record. Celina's loss also prevented District 9-3A from sweeping the 3A titles; last weekend Prosper (a member of 9-3A along with Celina) beat La Vega, 17-10, to win the 3A Division I title.
